Open Learning Schools & Late Afternoon Schools

IPER Open Learning Schools were first set up in 1989 located in the areas with large concentration of children deprived of any facilities of education, with aid from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India for providing educational services to those children who cannot make use of the existing system of education.

IPER Holiday School – Child Workers’ Own School

IPER had run 36 Holiday Schools during Saturday afternoon and Sunday mornings for more than 2500 children who were child workers under the Ministry of Labour. Beside education they enjoyed a glass of milk, a banana and bread. Classes were held in regular formal schools when their classes were not held. Each child got printed lesson plans and the progress of each child was maintained in a file.

IPER Habilitation Centre for Mentally Retarded Children

IPER Habilitation Centre for Mentally Challenged Children was set up in 1987 to meet the learning needs of mentally retarded children who are educable.

Access To Education-A Right for All Children’

US-AID through Reach India & American Research Institute with the support of a Project was taken up for demonstrating a strategy of empowering the stakeholder groups to ensure UEE for the Vulnerable Children. The project in 7 KMC Wards included residential and hand-on training for the Teachers in collaboration with 53 formal schools, setting up of 20 Community Learning Centres for Out-Of-School Children, School-On Wheels for hard-to reach–children, and similar activities.

Special Schools For Child Labour – (National Child Labour Project)

Under Ministry of Labour 7 special schools for child labours were set up by IPER with 350 children withdrawn from labour market. Each child received Rs.100 as stipend in their Bank Account.

Value Education in non-formal and formal School system in the city of Kolkata under MHRD

Materials both audio visual, and books were developed on different values identified by subject experts and educationists, teachers and writers.
