A Helpline for Children-in-Crisis
CHILDLINE Project across India is supported by the Ministry of Women & Child Development under the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS). It is a national 24 hour toll free emergency phone –1098– an outreach service for children in need of care and protection. IPER has been working as a Support Organisation for Kolkata CHILDLINE since 1999. IPER works in the southern parts of Kolkata and its coverage includes southern parts of Kolkata as well as greater Kolkata.
Presently Support CHILDLINE team of IPER is holding meetings for formation of Child Protection Committee in KMC Ward 74 with the Councillor of the ward being the Chairperson.
Childline reaches out to the most marginalised children with the aim of providing them rehabilitation and care from unsafe situations. Major activities are providing:
- Relief and rehabilitation
- Emotional Guidance & Support
- Creating awareness on different social issues related to child protection with children, schools, communities, collateral agencies like police youth clubs, transport terminals, hospitals, public telephone booths. “””””””Also amongst the general public through National signature campaigns Rallies Street dramas and distribution of posters and pamphlets, and celebrating events like CHILDLINE se DOSTI week, Swachh Bharat Mission,”””””””
Protection groups have been formed with the community mothers to help identify the child abuse cases and ask for help from Support team through Kolkata CHILDLINE. Members of IPER CHILDLINE Project also participate in awareness generation and in different trainings of KOLKATA CHILDLINE.
